Spilled liquid can cause short circuiting and damage internal components. This can lead to data loss, hardware problems and even complete failure.

If you do have a spillage follow these steps to give your laptop the best chance of survival.

• Switch the laptop off immediately
• Dry the outside of the laptop
• Hold the laptop upside down to let excess water drain out
• Rest the keyboard against an absorbent cloth
• Seek expert advice to have the laptop checked

Do not use a hairdryer, this will blow the water droplets around inside the laptop and make the risk of damage higher
